David Lamelas ( * 1946, Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a contemporary Argentinian artist, at present living between the cities of Los Angeles, Berlin and Paris. During the 1960s, he was one of the key members of the Instituto di Tella in Buenos Aires, and he was one of the first conceptual artists of the period. In 1968 he exhibited in London on a scholarship from the British Council, where he began to make short films and exhibition films. From then on, he continues to work splitting his time between Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Berlin and Brussels. In 1967, he received the top prize at the 9th São Paulo Biennial for his installation there. He also participated in the 34th Venice Biennial in 1968, and Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972. In 1992, he received the'' Diploma al Mérito de los Premios Konex'' for Conceptual Art and in 2012, the same award for Video Art. In 1993, he received the Guggenheim Fellowship 〔Listado de ganadores de la Beca Guggenheim en 1993〕 and in 1998, the DAAD Stipendium from Germany.
